Columbia deploys mobile digital technology ahead of SIRE 2.0

Columbia Shipmanagement is using an application on mobile tablets on board ships to improve vessel inspections and fleet data analytics

The shipmanagement group is using Kaiko Systems’ applications on Mobile intrinsically safe tablets to streamline inspection processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

Kaiko Systems’ applications provide insight into ship conditions using artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance data collection and analysis on vessels.

With the new self-assessment tool developed by Kaiko Systems and the hardware provided by Mobile, tanker owners and managers can efficiently complete preparation processes and ensure compliance with the evolving regulatory landscape.

This application is used on tablets on tankers to record onboard data and information and to conduct inspections, enabling vetting managers and superintendents to identify risks across their fleets by highlighting any areas of concern.

This comes ahead of the introduction of the upcoming Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE) 2.0 regime, the first update to the programme since 1993.

Combining Kaiko Systems’ application with Mobile tablets “has revolutionised ship inspections on board the Columbia Shipmanagement managed fleet,” said Columbia Group chief operating officer Leonid Zalenski.

“The user-friendly self-assessment tool streamlines inspection processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy,” he said.

“It helps our crew ensure seamless preparation for the impending SIRE 2.0 regime, setting new standards for maritime safety and compliance.”

Kaiko Systems co-founder and chief executive Fabian Fussek said the tanker sector is “facing a significant transformation in the inspection process, with the implementation of SIRE 2.0.”

He said combining applications on tablets “represents a pivotal step in ensuring that shipmanagers and crew members are equipped with the most advanced tools and technologies to navigate these changes seamlessly.”
