MARITIME CADET TRAINING PROGRAMME

A Structured Pathway to a Maritime Career

We’re pleased to share highlights from our recent Cadet Selection held at the Lyceum International Maritime Academy (LIMA) in Batangas, Philippines. With the full cadetship team present incl. Stewart Bankier, our Group Director Maritime HR(Learning and Development), the visit marked another important step in strengthening our future talent pipeline. As part of our early-selection strategy, we successfully hired 8 incoming 2nd-year academy cadets, ensuring we engage and support promising talent early in their development. We also had the opportunity to connect with incoming 3rd-year cadets, further reinforcing strong relationships with the academy. A great few days of collaboration, talent engagement, and investment in the next generation of maritime professionals

Cadetship Programme

Develop your maritime career through structured training, hands‑on experience, and global opportunities at sea.

At Columbia, our people are at the core of everything we do—both at sea and ashore. With a global network of over 22,000 seafarers operating across more than 400 vessels, we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in safety, quality, health, and environmental protection.

Our Cadet Programme is designed to attract motivated maritime graduates who are passionate about building a long-term career at sea. We focus on nurturing individual potential by offering structured guidance, mentorship, and continuous support throughout their professional journey.

By strengthening our collaboration with leading maritime academies and organisations such as IMEC, we ensure that our cadet training aligns with the evolving needs of the industry. At the same time, we actively contribute to expanding the global pool of qualified maritime professionals.

Through a combination of practical onboard experience and structured training, cadets develop the technical expertise, discipline, and leadership qualities required to succeed at sea. Our approach supports their growth into confident and capable officers, ready to take on future challenges.

Our vision is clear: to support today’s cadets in becoming the skilled maritime leaders of tomorrow.

FEMALE CADET MENTORING PROGRAMME

Women in Maritime – Cadet Mentoring Programme

At Columbia, we are dedicated to fostering a more inclusive future within the maritime industry. As the sector continues to evolve, more women are stepping into diverse roles across ship and shore operations, contributing valuable perspectives and expertise.

Launched in August 2023, our Female Cadet Mentoring Programme provides targeted support to help female cadets strengthen their skills, build confidence, and develop essential leadership capabilities. The initiative is designed not only to encourage women to pursue careers at sea, but also to support them throughout their professional development.

A key focus is ensuring long-term career sustainability by addressing important factors such as work-life balance and offering more flexible career pathways. Through this approach, Columbia aims to support, retain, and empower women across the maritime sector.

By investing in inclusive talent development, we continue to build a stronger, more diverse, and forward-looking workforce.

Our people are at the front, middle and end of everything we do.

Powered by technology, they deliver excellence across every aspect of our operations. Our diverse workforce, comprising individuals from all kinds of backgrounds, brings a wealth of perspectives, skills, and experiences that enrich our organisation.
