Deputy Designated Person Ashore (DDPA)

The Deputy Designated Person Ashore (DDPA) shall have the following qualifications:

• Seagoing experience in a command position of not less than two years;
• Practical training for the Role of Designated Person in accordance with IMO Circular MSC-MEPC.7/Circ6 section 5;
• Good working knowledge of international rules and regulations and of industry guidelines and recommendations;
• Training, experience and skills in internal auditing;
• Training, experience and skills in incident investigation;
• Training, experience and skills in risk management;
• Good leadership, managerial and communication skills as well as the ability to work within a team;
• A willingness to learn and adopt new systems and ideas;
• Good command of the English language.

The Deputy Designated Person Ashore (DDPA) is responsible for:

•  Jointly with QSHE Manager / DPA ensuring that the QSHE Department has the capability and resources to meet departmental responsibilities and objectives;
• Being full conversant with the Company’s Management System;
• Implementing effectively the Company’s Management System;
• Contributing to the development of new or the amendment of existing procedures;
• Promoting and supporting efforts for continual improvement;
• Providing such assistance to the QSHE Manager / DPA to ensure that the QSHE Department operates in an efficient and organised manner and backing up the QSHE Manager / DPA in his absence ensuring that there are adequate back-up arrangements in the office at all times;
• Promoting awareness of customers’ requirements throughout the department employees and the Company’s fleet;
• Encouraging a robust quality, safety, health and security culture as well as environmental awareness and energy efficiency within the department employees and the Company’s fleet;
• Conducting investigations of significant accidents / incidents as assigned by the QSHE Manager / DPA;

The Deputy QSHE Manager / Deputy DPA reports and is accountable to the QSHE Manager / DPA and is acting on his behalf during his absence.
