Group Technical Director

The Group Technical Director will lead and oversee the technical operations of a globally operating ship management company, managing a diverse fleet of 400 + vessels, including tankers and other types of ships. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the shipping and tanker industry, particularly within technical departments, and have a profound understanding of current industry requirements. This role demands a highly energetic individual with a “can do” mentality and exceptional English language skills, both verbal and written.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a large technical team, ensuring efficient and effective technical operations across the global fleet.
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and technical support for all vessels under management, ensuring compliance with international regulations and standards.
  • Develop and implement technical procedures and best practices to optimize vessel performance and safety.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and strategic alignment with the company’s goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the technical performance of vessels, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes, ensuring the company remains compliant and competitive.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the technical team.
  • Manage technical budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with clients, industry bodies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure robust communication and reporting mechanisms within the technical team and with other stakeholders.


  • Extensive experience in the shipping and tanker industry, specifically within technical departments and with various types of vessels.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience in managing large technical teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of current industry requirements, regulations, and best practices.
