Deputy Company Security Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that nonconformities and observations identified during internal audits, periodic reviews, security inspections and verifications of compliance are promptly addressed and dealt with;
  • Enhancing security awareness and vigilance amongst ships’ crews;
  • Ensuring full compliance with latest edition of Best Management Practice;
  • Being fully conversant with the Company’s Management System;
  • Implementing effectively the Company’s Management System;
  • Contributing to the development of new or the amendment of existing procedures;
  • Promoting and supporting efforts for continual improvement;
  • Monitoring effective communication and co-operation between the Ship Security Officer and the relevant Port Security Facility Officers;
  • When required, arranging security guards in accordance with applicable legislation, national and local rules and regulations;
  • Circulating security related information gained from authorized sources to the managed fleet;
  • Notifying the Flag Administration of security incidents as required by their individual legislation;
  • Monitoring changes in Security Levels, ensuring that the affected ships are notified and advising the levels of threat likely to be encountered by the ship using appropriate security assessments and other relevant information;
  • Ensuring Transit Risk Assessments for vessels going to HRA/VRA are timely prepared and submitted to CSO for a review;
  • Ensuring the Ship Security Alert System is tested at regular intervals as specified in Ship Security Plan and the confirmation from Flag State Authority is obtained as and when required;
  • Conducting Annual Security Exercises with managed vessels in compliance with ISPS Code and Flag requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree and /or at least two years relevant work experience with Columbia Shipmanagement or a similar company;
  • Familiarity with basic industry requirements and practices;
  • Good controlling and communication skills;
  • Good command of the English Language;
  • The ability to work within a team.
